Elmwood Scrapbook
This bathroom is 100 years old. Yes, 100. The pipes were 40 years past end of life, the walls were 3 inches of masonry atop metal lathe. The home is a double brick home – no studs. This was a messy, messy tear out. Tons (literally) of plaster, masonry, and building materials. And while the existing structure was sound, much of it was crooked, warped, and twisted after a century.
Elmwood Raoul Ripout
There is no nice and easy way to get it off the wall. Hammers, sledges, and pry bars. And dusty!
Elmwood – Completed 1
(Mostly) completed room. It was really tough to get a good shot of this room because of my camera (need a wide-angle lens).
Elmwood Tub Surround First
On the left-hand side you can see thinset (the darkness) skim coated over the denshield. This is make a flat surface for the tile installation.
Elmwood Insulation
The studs on the right are where they are *sistered* to the existing warped studs. Though the original are still strong, we prefer our walls to be flat.
Elmwood Plumbing
With the old plank floor removed and the old surround, work begins to update the plumbing throughout the house.
